Nurses are able to offer assessment of young people with mental health issues and their families and are able to offer short term or long term treatment either in the clinic setting or in a more convenient location. All nurses currently working in CAMHS in Oxleas have additional training in issues related to working with young people, for example, family therapy training, cognitive behaviour therapy training, training in solution focused approaches to treatment and training in psychodynamic approaches to treatment.

Nurses working in CAMHS are all registered nurses and most are registered mental health nurses. Registration as a mental health nurse requires three years of intensive training in mental health issues together with related issues and approaches to treatment. Oxleas will also shortly be training our first CAMHS nurse to be a non-medical prescriber which will further expand on the various roles that nurses are able to undertake in a CAMHS setting.
